The Whale is set in present-day Northern Idaho. Charlie, a morbidly obese gay man, senses that he may be in the last days of his life. He reaches out to his estranged teenage daughter, Ellie, who seems to feel only hate and resentment towards the world. As his health deteriorates, an unexpected meeting with a determined Mormon missionary offers Charlie an opportunity to understand a central mystery – why did his lover waste away and die? A beautiful drama about truth and reconciliation. Adult situations and language.
